We started our moving company in 1993, when our founder Avi Oz grew tired of the unethical and unscrupulous business practices in the moving industry and decided to blaze a new trail. In over 25 years of business, Oz Moving & Storage has grown from a single truck and a handful of employees to become one of New York City and Los Angeles's largest and most reputable moving and storage companies.Once we made our name in New York, we noticed our company was quickly becoming the most trusted in the city for moves to Los Angeles, and decided to open up an office in Southern California. Now in our second decade in L.A., Oz has truly become a bi-coastal company with dedicated offices and large fleets and manpower in both NYC and L.A. History Established in 1993. Avi Oz was the manager of another moving company in the late 80's and early 90's when he grew tired of the unscrupulous business practices in the industry and decided to start another company. When Avi launched his company in New York City in 1993, Oz Moving did the unthinkable and put the entire industry on its toes; he put the phone number of the New York State Department of Transportation, the regulating body of the moving industry, everywhere, from the sides of his trucks to every Oz Moving ad. Customers could call the D.O.T. to figure out about the reputation of any moving company. Oz wanted customers to make informed decisions, and his efforts helped stomp out fly-by-night scammers from the business, establishing Oz Moving as an industry leader in reliability, transparency, and customer service. Meet the Business Owner Business owner information Avi O. Business Owner In the 80s and early 90s, back in an age before Yelp reviews ever existed, Avi Oz was the manager of a moving company. Unhappy with the unscrupulous practices in the industry, he knew it was possible to run a profitable business without exploiting customers. It was then that Oz decided to establish his own company, Oz Moving & Storage. Reviews
A Quick Look at Customer Sentiment
Reviews for Oz Moving & Storage are highly polarized. Many customers report severe damage to high‐value items, unexpected extra charges, misleading estimates, and poor claims and customer service follow-up that left them frustrated and feeling defrauded. At the same time, a number of reviewers praise certain teams for their on‐time performance, efficient packing, and friendly professionalism—especially when coordinated by knowledgeable representatives. Overall, while some repeat customers appreciate the fast, courteous moving teams, the recurring issues with damage, pricing transparency and inconsistent communication suggest significant room for improvement.
Deep Dive: Detailed Analysis of Customer Reviews
We’ve gathered and analyzed reviews from real customers across the web to give you an in-depth look at their experiences with Oz Moving & Storage - Los Angeles Movers. Here’s what people are saying about their service quality, professionalism, and reliability:
Overall Experience & Satisfaction
The overall sentiment expressed is extremely mixed. Numerous reviewers describe their experiences as deeply disappointing and even traumatic due to extensive property damage and extra charges, while a smaller group reports satisfactory moves with timely delivery and stress‐free service. Many long‐distance moves ended with valuable items damaged or lost, leaving customers with lingering frustration and dissatisfaction.
Service Quality & Expertise
Service quality is a major issue for many customers. A recurring theme is the apparent lack of proper packing techniques and handling expertise, which has led to broken electronics, damaged furniture and lost boxes. Although some reviewers mention that certain crews and individual movers (such as Demetrius, Israel or Corey) displayed professionalism and skill, poor overall execution in packing and moving has overshadowed these positive remarks.
Customer Service & Communication
Communication with the company has been inconsistent and, in many cases, outright problematic. Several customers report dismissive or unresponsive customer service representatives, with conflicting information regarding delivery times, pricing changes, and claims processes. While a few individuals commend representatives like Monica, Allison or Carlos for their responsiveness, others note that post-move follow-up and claims resolution are handled in a way that leaves customers feeling ignored.
Value for Money & Pricing Transparency
Many reviews criticize Oz Moving for hidden fees, sudden increases over the original estimates and inadequate insurance coverage. Customers often report being charged extra on moving day and having to deal with a bait-and-switch pricing structure that undermines trust. Although some find the quoted prices attractive at first, the overall cost–when extra charges and insufficient claims settlements are factored in–is seen as poor value for money.
Timeliness & Efficiency
Timeliness varies widely in the reviews. While a few customers reported prompt service and efficient loading and unloading, a significant number recount long delays, last-minute schedule changes, and inefficient handling that resulted in prolonged waiting periods or delayed deliveries. Inconsistent time windows and poor coordination have been recurring sources of stress.
Professionalism & Trustworthiness
Many reviewers express serious concerns regarding the professionalism and trustworthiness of Oz Moving. A number of experiences recount movers acting carelessly, drivers engaging in unsafe or offensive behavior, and company representatives deflecting responsibility for damages. Accusations of shoddy work, misleading explanations about insurance, and overall evasive responses have eroded trust in the service, despite occasional praise for individual staff members.
Facility, Environment & Ambience
Although not the primary focus, some reviews mention that packing and storage conditions are suboptimal. Complaints include boxes filled with trash or poorly organized packing materials and inadequate care in wrapping fragile items. Such observations indicate that the physical handling environments may not always be conducive to preserving high-value or sentimental items intact.
Accessibility & Convenience
The ease of contacting Oz Moving is described in varying terms. Some customers appreciate a straightforward scheduling process and prompt initial estimates, while many others report difficulty in reaching representatives post-move, confusing communications regarding delivery dates and extra fees, and a lack of accessible support when problems occur.
Problem Resolution & Follow-up
When issues arise, particularly with damaged or missing items, problem resolution is a consistent pain point. The standard claims process—often based on a nominal rate of 60 cents per pound—has been widely criticized as insufficient. Several reviewers detail long delays, inadequate reimbursements, and even instances where the company has deflected accountability through vague explanations, leaving disputes unresolved and customers feeling taken advantage of.
Unique Strengths & Areas for Improvement
Some reviewers highlight strengths such as efficient, friendly crews, competitive initial pricing, and the ability of certain teams to work cohesively during the move. Specific individuals such as certain foremen and customer reps have been singled out for exemplary service. However, major areas for improvement include adopting more transparent and accurate pricing practices, enhancing training to ensure proper handling and packing of items, improving claims processing and follow-up responsiveness, and embedding a culture of accountability across all regions and departments.
